I would like to share my wonderful experience at this hotel, and I'd like to extend special thanks to one staff member, Star. Due to our limited English proficiency, Star went above and beyond to help us numerous times, making our stay more enjoyable and seamless. Star consistently greeted us with a smile and a warm attitude. Whenever we encountered any issues or needed assistance, she patiently addressed our concerns and provided incredibly helpful suggestions. Her professionalism and genuine concern for guests made us feel right at home. Not only does this hotel boast an elegant environment and attentive service, but the enthusiastic assistance from staff members like Star left a lasting impression on us. Once again, a big thank you to Star and the entire hotel team. We look forward to staying here again and creating more wonderful memories.

We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment and were surprised how spacious it was. It looked like it had been recently painted with new carpets and curtains. We chose this hotel for its retro charm, and it didn’t disappoint. The apartment itself also had some retro elements. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom spacious with a big bathtub and shower. There was a cosy living room and a small kitchenette. The hotel hot pool is popular and nicely set in the patio area. We enjoyed the breakfast, too, and thought it was reasonably priced.

The hotel's location is exceptional - it's a 5 minute walk from the bus station and tourist center ( which offers excellent shuttle tours of major sites), a 10 minute walk from the Polynesian Spa, Eat Street and other downtown attractions. The historic nature of the hotel is well maintained with a lovely lobby and spacious rooms that open to a veranda. The staff are friendly and helpful - Nia, in particular, - a superstar! For example, she offered to give me a ride to the spa when she clocked out due to inclement weather!

If you’re traveling by Intercity bus in New Zealand, this hotel is within site of the bus terminal. It’s also very close to the lake and a beautiful park. I was surprised to be in a room that was not in the historical hotel but in an adjacent apartment style accommodation. It was adequate but definitely showed its age but not in a quaint way. The laundry room was appreciated for self service. The high tea was ok but didn’t seem as freshly prepared. Staff were very professional and friendly.

Cheryl

Very handy for the InterCity bus stop, Government gardens and lake. Loved the choices for breakfast (especially Eggs Benedict with salmon, and Avocado smash) and the extensive dinner menu with interesting fish dishes. The staff were all friendly and helpful, particularly Michelle on reception who went well "over and above" to help me in any way she could. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
