Prince's Gate Hotel

Wonderfully friendly owners who perfect the running of this wonderful small hotel. The location of the hotel is A1.. just a stroll to town. The walk around the Lake is stunning. The rooms are immaculately clean & very comfortable . You even have a choice of pillows and have a selection of Zealong teas to choose from ! The views over the lake are so relaxing and the singing of the Tūīs outside our window was very special. There are fearless darting fantails to watch every everywhere. The rooms are beautifully decorated & classy. Our dinner was delicious and the breakfasts were top class and beautifully presented. The owners, Cris & his wife are very attentive. We will definitely be booking this fabulous boutique hotel for a regular break away.

Location was perfect! My daughter and I were easily able to use our scooters or walk to many places, and everything else was a quick drive away. The 1-bedroom suite was spacious, clean, comfortable, and quiet. Very beautiful suite with unique furnishings, helping us feel like we were treating ourselves to a special, fancy stay. My daughter also loved the chess set and piano in the lobby area.

We stayed at the Prince’s Gate Hotel in Rotorua for my son’s birthday, and it was such a memorable experience. With so many hotels to choose from, we almost overlooked this one since I usually lean toward more modern options—but after two different friends recommended it, I’m so glad we booked. One of the real highlights was the two open fireplaces and beautiful couches, which created the perfect cosy atmosphere for a winter getaway. We even met some lovely fellow travellers there while relaxing by the fire—it really added to the charm. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. Kumar at reception was exceptionally friendly and welcoming—he even went out of his way to help carry our bags through the rain to our apartments. The apartments themselves were incredible: full of character and history, yet newly and tastefully decorated. Breakfast the next morning was just as delightful, with Shweta and Nethmi looking after us with warmth and care. The location couldn’t be better either—just a short walk to Wai Ariki Spa (which was amazing), the beautiful Government Gardens, and plenty more Rotorua highlights. Overall, Prince’s Gate Hotel exceeded our expectations and made our family celebration so special. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for both charm and comfort right in the heart of Rotorua.

I absolutely loved the character of this hotel! Staying here feels like stepping back in time, with so many charming details to admire — from the vintage wallpapers and antique furniture to the historic photographs and elegant décor. Every corner tells a story. The service was professional, attentive, and everything was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. Our room was spacious, romantic, and wonderfully warm — the perfect place to unwind. We also enjoyed a delicious full breakfast that set us up for the day. This hotel offers not just accommodation, but a whole experience. Highly recommend for anyone who loves heritage buildings with soul.

Our room was comfortably furnished with lovely old fashioned wallpaper and carpet. Everything we needed was there including unusual toiletries, a comfy bed and Sky news. There was a balcony outside and a street view. We had come for a concert at the Sir Howard Morrison theatre and that was 5 minutes walk away. We were able to get parking behind the hotel as it was off-season. Their carpark is very small and it was reassuring to know that the street down one side of the hotel has free parking just in case we lost our spot. We appreciated the 10% discount on eating in the dining room where both food and service was good.
